HOW FINISHES WORK

LAYER BY LAYER TO MORE COMFORT AND PROTECTION

Ophthalmic lenses are given a finish to improve the optical properties. In various procedures, wafer-thin layers are applied to protect the surfaces against scratches, to reduce light reflexes, reduce dazzling, and much  more.

THERE IS STATE-OF-THE-ART NANO TECHNOLOGY IN EVERY FINISH

Finishes are applied as layers to ophthalmic lenses that are just a few nanometres thick. In a dipping procedure, a lacquer is applied that makes the lens scratch-resistant.  Various compositions or lacquers specifically adapted to the index are used for different ophthalmic lens materials. The other layers are then evaporated in a vacuum system. Sapphire finishes combine up to nine individual layers that are applied to the inner or outer side of the ophthalmic lens.

Quality is also important in finishes. The higher the quality, the better the vision experience. In addition, depending on personal requirement, you can set certain focus areas e.g. maximum light transmission, UV protection or protection against unnatural, blue light.

LAYER STRUCTURE OF THE SKY+ CLEAR FINISH

The unique layer package of the SKY+ CLEAR finish ensures a crystal-clear visual experience and best perception of contrast and colours thanks to perfect reduction of the light reflexes. On the front side, 10 reflex-reducing layers, the strengthened hard layer, an antistatic layer and an optimised super-hydrophobic protective layer are applied. The inner side has a strengthened hard layer, 10 reflex-reducing layers, an anti-static layer and a super-oleophobic protective layer.
